Kaziranga National Park

The first National park in Assam situated in central Assam situated in central Assam with an area of 430sq.kms. It is

the home of the great Indian one-horned Rhinoceros (Unicornous). The landscape of Kaziranga is of sheer forest, elephant

grass, rugged reeds, mellow marshes and shallow pools.

Wildlife: Rhinoceros, Elephant, Indian bison, Swamp deet, Sambar, Hog deer, Sloth bear, Tiger, Leopard, cat , Jungle cat,

Hog Badger, Capped languer, Hoolock gibbon, Jackal, Goose, Hornbill, Ibis, Cormorant, Egret, Heron Fishing Eagle and

others.

Season: November to April.

Manas National Park

A major Tiger Project, Manas is one of the India's most magnificent National Parks. It is situated on the bank of the river

Manas with the back drop of the sub-Himalayan hills. The National Park is known for its unique combination of

unparalleled scenic charm and a rare wealth of wildlife. Manas is one of the nine tiger reserves elevated watch tower one

can see them yielding to their death wish and their little plumage dropping down.

Season: August to November

What to wear: Heavy woolen in winter. Cotton in summer

Other Attraction: Exciting trekking in Borail hills. Visit to orchid garden. Traditional dance and music of the tribals is an

added attraction.

Nameri National Park

Situated at the foot hills of the eastern Himalaya Nameri is the third National park of the state. Covering an area

of 200sq.kms., Nameri is the treasure house of may endangered species of wildlife like the White-Winged Wood-Duck,

Mahseer, Tiger, Leopard, Clouded Leopard, Sambar, Elephant, Gaur, Indian wild Dog, four varieties of Hornbill and

varieties of birds. It is about 35kms from Tezpur town.

Where to stay: There is a Eco-Camp at Potasli and two Tourist Lodges at Bhalukpung.

Batadrawa: Batadraw or Bardowa is the birth place of the greatest Vaishnava Saint Srimanta Sankardev. Shrine and a

centre of vaishava art and culture. It is about 140kms from Guwahati and about 15kms from Nagaon town.

Dipu: The Hilly town is the district head quarter of the Karbi-Anglong district. Diphu is the centre of Karbi art and

culture. The Karbis are one of the indigenous tribes of the state and they are well known for their hospitality and colorful

culture. Both day and night buses ply regularly from Guwahati to Diphu. It is also connected by rail service from Guwahati.

Digboi: Surrounded by numerous tea gardens and mystic blue hills, Digboi is a major oil town. One of the oldest refineries

of the world exists here. There is also a War Cemetry and a golf course in Digboi.

Dibru National Park

Place : Tinsukia, Assam
Nearest town : Tinsukia (13km)
Best time to visit : November to April
Main attraction : Semi Wild horses (Feral) and White winged wood duck

Dibru - Saikhova is the largest national park of Assam, spread over an area of 650 sq. km. It is located at about 13 kms

north of Tinsukia town and about 515 kms from Guwahati and is bounded by the Brahmaputra river and Arunachal hills

in the north and Dibru and Patkai hills on the south. This was declared a wildlife Sanctuary in 1986 by the government of

Assam by uniting two Reserve forest, viz., Dibru and Saikhowa including some other areas. It was elevated to the

National Park status in 1999 restricting its core area to 340 sq. km. with a large buffer zone.

Dibru Saikhowa National Park is one of the 19 (nineteen) biodiversity hotspots in the world. It mainly consists of

semi wet evergreen forests, tropical moist deciduous forest, bamboo, cane brakes and grasslands. Situated in the flood

plains of Brahmaputra, at an altitude of 118 m above sea level, Dibru-Saikhowa is a safe haven for many extremely

rare and endangered species of wild life including over 300 avifauna both endangered and migratory, as well as various

species of shrubs, herbs and rare medicinal plants. Though the park was primarily meant for the conservation of

Whitewinged wood duck in its natural habitat, it is also the famous for its bright coloured wild horses known as

Feral Horses. Some rare and endangered animals of this sanctuary are Hoolock gibbon, capped langur, slow loris,

water buffalo, tiger, elephant, gangetic river dolphin etc. Bird life consists of Spot billed pelican, White bellied heron,

Pallah's fishing eagle, Pale capped pigeon, Swamp francolin etc. and migratory birds like Geyleg goose, Brahmini

duck, Bar-headed goose, pelican, Black stork etc.

Permission is required for entry into the park. Guijan Ghat (10km from Tinsukia) and Saikhowa ghat are the two entry

points for tourists. Entry before sunrise and after sunset as well as night halt and picnicking inside the Park is not

allowed. There are two forest villages Dhadia and Laika inside the park.

Where to stay
There is an Inspection Bungalow at Guijan(10km from Tinsukia). There is also enough space for tented accommodation.

Private hotels and forest Inspection Bungalow at Tinsukia town also provide comfortable accommodation.

How to get there
Air: Dibrugarh is the nearest airport which is about 40km away from Tinsukia Town. There are regular flights from major

cities like Delhi,Calcutta and Guwahati to Dibrugarh

Rail: Dibrugarh is the nearest railhead which is linked with Guwahati by a broad gauge and it is also connected with

other cities by express and super fast trains.

Road: Regular Bus service, Taxies and Auto rickshaws are available at Tinsukia (13 km).

Orang National Park

State : Assam
Location : Darrang and Sonitpur , on the north bank of the Brahmaputra.
Best time to visit : November To March
Main attraction : Fauna & Flora

The park is situated on the north bank of the river Brahmaputra, covering an area of 72 sq. km., Orang is a mini

Kaziranga. It is about 32 kms. from Tezpur and 140 kms. from Guwahati. The Park is famous for its natural scenic

beauty that snatches the attention of the visitors / tourists to it.

The park has a very dense population of tiger (Panthera tigris) (estimated 25 no in 75 sq km). The population of the

Great Indian One Horned Rhino (Rhinoceros unicornis) was estimated 97 in 1993, second highest. However, due

to unbated poaching during 1994-1998 the number of rhino has gone down to less than 50 in 2000. The park also

has estimated 45-60 Bengal Florican (Houbaropsis bengalensis). Among other mammals Blind Gangetic

Dolphin, Indian Pangolin, Rhesus Macaque, Bengal Porcupine, Indian Fox, Small Indian Civet, Otter, Leopard cat,

Fishing cat are to be noted.

The Avian fauna of the park is also very rich. It is represented by 47 families of which Anatidae, Accipitridae,

Addenda, Ardeiae are represented with maximum number of species. Important avifauna are Bengal Florican

(Houbaropsis bengalensis), Spot-billed Pelican (Pelicanus philippensis), Black-necked Stork (Ephippiorhynchus

asiaticus), Greater Adjutant Stork (Leptoptilos dubius), Lesser Adjutant (Leptoptilos javanicus), Wooly-necked

Stork (Ciconia episcopus), Rudy Shelduck (Tadorna ferruginea), Gadwall (Anas strepera), Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos),

Pintail (Anas acuta), Pallas's Fishing Eagle (Haliaeetus leucoryphus) and a number of others including forest and

grassland birds.

Among reptiles Indian Rock Python, Cobra, 9 species of turtles are known till now. (Reptile diversity is not well known.)

Amphibian diversity is very high in the park. 19 species of amphibians have been identified yet, of which three species are

new to science.

Flora
The floral wealth of the park is very significant. There are planted forest, Natural forest, Non aquatic grass/plants to

be found among the macrroflora of the park. Planted forest patches are composed of species like Dalbergia sisoo,

Bombax ceiba, Acacia catechu, Terminalia myriocarpa, Anthrocephalus kadamba, etc.

The Natural Forest species are like Bombax ceiba, Dalbergia sisoo, Sterculia villosa, Trewia nudiflora, Zizypphus jujuba,

Litsaea polyantha, etc. Among the non aquatic grassland species the prominent are Phragmites karka, Arundo donax,

Imperata cylindrical, Saccarum spp. etc.

The aquatic grass/plants species are Andropogon spp., Ipomea reptans, Enhydra flushians, Nymphia spp., Wichornia spp.

etc.

Kaziranga Special (3 Nights/ 4 Days)

Day 01 : Arrive Guwahati by Air

Assistance on arrival and transfer to your Hotel. Evening visit 'Kalakshetra', a place where Assamese history and

culture is depicted in a sprawling open enclosure. Return to hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 02 : GUWAHATI - KAZIRANGA (Drive from Guwahati to Kaziranga 230kms/5hrs)
After breakfast we will be driving down to the Kaziranga National Park, home to the famed one horned rhino. On arrival

check into the Resort. Afternoon jeep safari through the western side of the National Park. Come back to the Resort. Dinner around campfire. Overnight

Day 03 : KAZIRANGA
Early morning we will see the National Park (eastern side) on elephant back. Apart from the Rhino, other species found are

the hog deer, swamp deer, wild buffalo, elephants and if you are lucky, the tiger. It is a paradise for bird watchers, with a

variety of migratory and resident birds. We will return to the resort for breakfast. Afternoon, go inside the Park once again

on jeep from another side. In the evening, tribal dance. Sit around a campfire discussing the day's events. Dinner and

overnight

Day 04: KAZIRANGA - AIRPORT TRANSFER
Morning transfer from Kaziranga to Guwahati airport in time to catch the outgoing flight.
